<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">My <a href="http://jugglingchic.tumblr.com/">sister-in-law</a> found this Diane Von Furstenburg dress at Goodwill!!! Then, she sent it to me, and I LOVE it. I normally am not a fan of wrap dresses. They usually don't fit me well, but this one is adorable (and it has pockets). I wasn't sure how to accessorize it, so I just went with a simple gold necklace (<a href="http://www.maxandchloe.com/West-Avenue-Jewelry-Medium-Monogram-Necklace">found here</a>). </span><br />

<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">These were cool back during the "gladiator sandal" trend. I bought them for $5 at a store in Japan, so don't judge me too much. Unfortunately, I only wore them once (with a costume). I'm sure you can imagine why...</span><br />

Since I'm doing <a href="http://100dollarcloset.blogspot.com/p/about.html">Mission: $100 Closet</a>, I can't really afford to buy new sandals. So, I decided to give them a haircut and see how they look.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Guess what? I like them! Best part: they were my EASIEST refashion ever. They took me about 5 seconds to cut. <span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Also, my title mentions a camera. WHY? If you can't tell, my picture quality is terrible. Sure, it could be the rushed morning self-photography, BUT it's an old point-and-shoot camera. I'm super excited that Moneyman (aka the frugal husband) and I spent this weekend shopping for a DSLR. We've narrowed it down to 2-3 favorites, so we want to read a few more reviews and shop around for the best price. Anytime we spend more than a couple hundred bucks, we spend A LOT of time researching it. Hopefully, my next posts will be shot with a much nicer camera!</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">You may have noticed by now that most of my thrifted clothing is labeled "thrifted in Japan." I label it that way because the brand on the label is usually not available in the U.S. (or legible by me). I just moved to the U.S. from Japan, and while I was there I thrifted ALL THE TIME. Why? Generally, Japanese clothing is made in 3 sizes. All of which seemed to fit me pretty well. Imagine walking into a thrift store where all of the clothing fits you. IT. WAS. HEAVEN. Moreover, I wear a shoe size 5.5-6. Most of the shoes in the Japanese thrift stores were also my size. I. WENT. WILD. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Anyways, this shirt was one of the last items I thrifted in Japan before moving back to the States. It's also one of my favorite items. I love how lady-like and sweet it is. KAWAII!</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I haven't updated for a couple days, but I have a GREAT reason. You see, I'm normally a middle and high school teacher. I'm certified to also teach elementary ESL and Spanish. Welp, I'm teaaching at an elementary school now in SoCal, and it is HARD. These kids have way more energy than middle/high schoolers, and I'm trying to figure out how to harness it for the classroom. Those elementary teachers are special people, I tell ya! SPECIAL PEOPLE! Meanwhile, these kids are probably the cutest kids I've ever taught. The things they say... I could start a blog just based on their daily quotes. Cuteness overload.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I bought this blazer from Zara during one of their bi-annual sales or "rebajas". It's perfect for dressing up a pair of jeans. It's also a great outfit for running around the school, giving hugs to the littles, and running errands after work (without looking like a themed-vest teacher).</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">You might already know that Zara is my favorite store. My husband tries to stay clear of cities with a Zara for this reason. When I lived in Japan, there were 2 Zaras near my house... SCORE! Now, there is 1 Zara about 1 hour away. Let me demonstrate why Zara rocks....</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Now, let's backtrack to the summer of 2010. I bought a skirt at Goodwill in the States for $1.50 (no pictures, sorry!). The skirt was about 4 sizes too big and hung to my ankles. I took it in, but it still looked awkward. I hemmed it to my knees, but it still looked a little "grandma-ish". I never wore it. Finally, I decided to make it a "going out" skirt and hemmed it a lot shorter. I did the outside first, and then I was inspired by Zara (above) and decided to fringe the liner and keep it long. Bonus: It's pretty hard (for me) to hem liners, so it's also a short-cut.</span></div>

Separates can be pieced together in several combinations to create more outfits, while dresses make 1 outfit...usually. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I love dresses. If you travel a lot, you probably appreciate dresses too. One dress packs <strong>much</strong> smaller than two separates. Dresses get a bad rap for versatility, but I'm here to say that they ARE versatile. They can be worn in lots of different ways. Proof:</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2jEsgad3YZ4lml1rGu0c3nnFJfelnFg-te9bCq3AQ0z9_OCp8_P83Ovm1tpVLx1P2dAKtuQEKh1V_L9Xz9O4f_3O3s5tFSIvjwEd0u5l33rwOpOExIOD7_stwC35D7RpujZ2MiJp6lOc/s1600/Dress.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2jEsgad3YZ4lml1rGu0c3nnFJfelnFg-te9bCq3AQ0z9_OCp8_P83Ovm1tpVLx1P2dAKtuQEKh1V_L9Xz9O4f_3O3s5tFSIvjwEd0u5l33rwOpOExIOD7_stwC35D7RpujZ2MiJp6lOc/s640/Dress.jpg" width="308" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">I bought this dress long ago at H&M, but it just was't working for me. In fact, it was tossed in a basket after my <a href="http://100dollarcloset.blogspot.com/2012/09/cleanin-out-my-closet-2-leftovers.html">Cleaning Out the Closet</a> post.</span><br />

It's a great time to connect, talk about our day, and enjoy our beautiful surroundings. We just moved here from Japan. We used to walk around the city that we lived in, look in stores, and karaoke. It's fun to make new traditions every time we move! :)</span><br />

Last Friday, that number decreased to $92.02. That's right... if you're proficient at math, you know that I spent a whole $7.98. I'm not good at math, so I was sad when my frugal and math-proficient husband pointed out that I'm only 3% done with my mission, and I've spent almost 8% of my budget. Hmm... Ariel. No. Like. Math. </span><br />

<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Despite this discovery, I am still thrilled about my accidental purchases. You see, I was leaving the doctor's office and passed by a Goodwill. My <a href="http://jugglingchic.tumblr.com/">sister-in-law</a> had just texted me a couple AWESOME lamps that she found at her Goodwill, and I thought how cool it would be if this Goodwill had a similarly amazing find. It didn't. I consoled myself by looking through the clothing... I'm glad I did. </span><br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">$2.99 - TAKE ME HOME TONIGHT!</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<span style="font-family: Arial;">The leather purse was a little vintage, but it was clean inside and in great condition...so take it home, I did! Before I wore it though, I gave it a little update.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">First, I taped it off and sanded it a little with fine grit sand paper.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4v1HwrixLsh2c25LtbThcCgMIsiAB1QRX0VNvaUZT5YIayItPF3vM2PBicVO5nf3ipMtKMh8bidEyGWOER8jWmqQKQIWaO39qp3-dFTP2VIqEoc0DvjqZ4ZCWmJRc5UmEabFp8JAh7Yo/s1600/P9070060.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4v1HwrixLsh2c25LtbThcCgMIsiAB1QRX0VNvaUZT5YIayItPF3vM2PBicVO5nf3ipMtKMh8bidEyGWOER8jWmqQKQIWaO39qp3-dFTP2VIqEoc0DvjqZ4ZCWmJRc5UmEabFp8JAh7Yo/s400/P9070060.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Second, I wiped it down with a wet cloth and then a dry cloth.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOfiXeTXc3OoZ5qw_719VwpxA7310Xn51YhLpqtn19xmbMxR_89sXWAluCIn2Yp5466fNECi0qJzanbFB4N3ttFWs-0uckoyKariJA_YdhG1LjOTg1sVbB2tjX23tzCzTO0TzkzWSJq7Q/s1600/P9070062.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOfiXeTXc3OoZ5qw_719VwpxA7310Xn51YhLpqtn19xmbMxR_89sXWAluCIn2Yp5466fNECi0qJzanbFB4N3ttFWs-0uckoyKariJA_YdhG1LjOTg1sVbB2tjX23tzCzTO0TzkzWSJq7Q/s400/P9070062.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Third, I made a mixture of half-water and half-paint (acrylic). I painted 3 thin layers on the leather with this mixture. The water is supposed to help the leather absorb the paint without cracking over time.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjfRRhMV3b0Km6-GDBHDKyiktTgM6Et49enqdVqccwjmtKH3KM7pcdsV66aTEaDLm-ruBctFo1vFInEVtzmYpKWCEKDr-GEjdl9XfHUgCqWCMuDlDrfCDnGZBDg8QvL9EEtkmbNCRnXbHM/s1600/P9070063.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjfRRhMV3b0Km6-GDBHDKyiktTgM6Et49enqdVqccwjmtKH3KM7pcdsV66aTEaDLm-ruBctFo1vFInEVtzmYpKWCEKDr-GEjdl9XfHUgCqWCMuDlDrfCDnGZBDg8QvL9EEtkmbNCRnXbHM/s400/P9070063.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div align="left" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div align="left" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Finally, after it dried, I painted 2 thin, even coats of plain acrylic paint. Notice that I didn't paint the back portion of the purse that would rub against my clothing. I was afraid the constant rubbing might wear the paint off the purse (and onto my clothing). In the picture below, you can see the brush strokes. I promise in person it is brush stroke free. </span></div>

It's a secret what we're celebrating, but I was able to toast it with wine... so you can cross one thing off the list. ;) Of course, I didn't wear the low cut tank top in the classroom. I wore a long sleeve black top, since classrooms are ALWAYS cold...and arm pits in the classroom are inappropiate (and gross). <span style="font-family: Arial;"> By the way, did you notice anything different about my hair? If I had taken this picture in the morning, you would be like "WHOA! You are having a great hair day!" After a few hours in a classroom, my good hair changes a little. I decided to try out the "Coconut Oil in the Hair" craze, and I have to tell my curly-headed sistas: DO IT! YOU WON'T BE SORRY! Well, actually, do it if you have *dry, *coarse, *frizzy, *thick, and *unmanageable hair. If your curls are soft and thinner, it might make your hair a little oily. Meanwhile, my super dry hair sucked the oil up and felt better than ever! </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">So here ya go (in case you forgot already):</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Arial;">On a side note, I also tried the whole "Coconut Oil as a Deodorant" craze. What? You don't read Pinterest? It's a real craze, I think. Warning: That experiment was a FAILURE. I might just be a sweaty beast though... :(</span><br />

In my <a href="http://www.100dollarcloset.blogspot.com/2012/08/cleanin-out-my-closet_31.html">first post</a> about cleaning out my closet, I mentioned that I pulled out several items that I might upcycle or just reimagine somehow to stretch their use. How? I don't know. I took somewhat organized pictures of these items. Why? I also don't know. Maybe someone will look at this post and be all like: <em>HEY! Regardless of budget, I think most people want to get as much versatility as they can from their clothing. This year, I won't be adding much to my current wardrobe (see why <a href="http://100dollarcloset.blogspot.com/p/about.html">here</a>), so I wanted to <strike>play dress up</strike> practice making my clothing more versatile. Here's a simple accordion-pleated navy and cream polka dot skirt (thrifted in Japan for 300 yen~$4) worn 7 different ways. I probably could have made 20 looks with this simple skirt, but my photographer (Moneyman AKA my hubby) got tired after 7. :)</span><br />

I just cut, sewed, cut, sewed...until it turned into something.</span><br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">I also got hungry often during this upcycle... so my attention wandered frequently.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Here's the tutorial. I apologize that there aren't pictures of every step, eventually I got so <strike>tired</strike> excited that I forgot to take any pictures. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Step 1: Choose an oversized t-shirt.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2brZ81fHjKzCXlIArtR9LxfUK2Wd3w-WyWJlgI4m3bhg0osjCoZEiiJlYn9GHAqqob9J7MQTvjEUebPElSXE2lD64lEFn4zS6HKdWseqHX_t2YVxTjcIEhB1oWTfMIm2pfJbp9WERZ_w/s1600/P9030028.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2brZ81fHjKzCXlIArtR9LxfUK2Wd3w-WyWJlgI4m3bhg0osjCoZEiiJlYn9GHAqqob9J7MQTvjEUebPElSXE2lD64lEFn4zS6HKdWseqHX_t2YVxTjcIEhB1oWTfMIm2pfJbp9WERZ_w/s320/P9030028.JPG" width="228" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Step 2: Cut your neckline into your shirt.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg88fh3OdpHBTfNgwVtlmRth20ZtWBKbstXue1-4Un1jH2GkvYtS3VpEwEsvytHN_MVO5yUifa31VBQ88EEf0u0RPjYiXyVvKwTWskbV9EbCVdItrzhmyjolmUcgb4vXBML5wd90H5oXK8/s1600/P9030030.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="228" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg88fh3OdpHBTfNgwVtlmRth20ZtWBKbstXue1-4Un1jH2GkvYtS3VpEwEsvytHN_MVO5yUifa31VBQ88EEf0u0RPjYiXyVvKwTWskbV9EbCVdItrzhmyjolmUcgb4vXBML5wd90H5oXK8/s320/P9030030.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span> <br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Step 3: The sides of the shirt will be huge. Put it on (inside out) and pin it to fit your body.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixx4D70hrF2hAYbxQ2GRrBgLATzeWEhC9dPz7qmk95lSaJ_t6yx8vNJpnMnSF7BTRTIHdHZAMlEC8h-L0tIGuMLTCDihXau0wPz9lxfbdq6z_PWv0m3QTHiccQW3qVR3bpW19niYmk5SE/s1600/P9030032.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixx4D70hrF2hAYbxQ2GRrBgLATzeWEhC9dPz7qmk95lSaJ_t6yx8vNJpnMnSF7BTRTIHdHZAMlEC8h-L0tIGuMLTCDihXau0wPz9lxfbdq6z_PWv0m3QTHiccQW3qVR3bpW19niYmk5SE/s320/P9030032.JPG" width="228" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span> <br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Step 4: Sew along your pinned line.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKqziZHUL65Ws2WnpELYz5da2pMJvNE4xMtcENx-jqCRGTIBOyVEbtUk5tnYZF_Vtq_HkYOqMPzlTSb7kybUupmK3lVEJFho6nPQlSjKxHQNAL2VIJ6PsdFA-uBZf5BeUmcElxgxcJ9HE/s1600/P9030033.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="228" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKqziZHUL65Ws2WnpELYz5da2pMJvNE4xMtcENx-jqCRGTIBOyVEbtUk5tnYZF_Vtq_HkYOqMPzlTSb7kybUupmK3lVEJFho6nPQlSjKxHQNAL2VIJ6PsdFA-uBZf5BeUmcElxgxcJ9HE/s320/P9030033.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span> <br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;">To keep both sides even, I only sewed one side, then I folded the shirt in half and marked the other side along the sewn edge with a pencil.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFKr2j-WDxg-EaBZkVR3nqQkgavoLFBz6iIddzV-rPgsUnofSYUTeV9lrjpK6Y7cmpyLWcZLTHvBQyqrT8vChZRVOxnKUYysLeONYNL15c95kjdwaOYDWcNuDWssLYxSm47QDA0vECKZ0/s1600/P9030035.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="228" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFKr2j-WDxg-EaBZkVR3nqQkgavoLFBz6iIddzV-rPgsUnofSYUTeV9lrjpK6Y7cmpyLWcZLTHvBQyqrT8vChZRVOxnKUYysLeONYNL15c95kjdwaOYDWcNuDWssLYxSm47QDA0vECKZ0/s320/P9030035.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Step 5: Put it on and see what you think of it so far! That's what I did anyways. I discovered a few things from this step: 1) It was WAY too short! 2) The unfinished arm holes bothered me 3) I was off to a good start.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjHMeh7H8_Rg5jdzNaCgAPfWWraCYxH3muxL7wXK1ulbiZxlZ4bKDVvxKoecR_1Gk3JVmweEkrzF-7tBQ21VVUTHb2PLZ_e274m2hLC2DH6hdRTVjQqWuKIPie6k3W9iOGmpudpaz37Lfk/s1600/P9030037.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjHMeh7H8_Rg5jdzNaCgAPfWWraCYxH3muxL7wXK1ulbiZxlZ4bKDVvxKoecR_1Gk3JVmweEkrzF-7tBQ21VVUTHb2PLZ_e274m2hLC2DH6hdRTVjQqWuKIPie6k3W9iOGmpudpaz37Lfk/s320/P9030037.JPG" width="228" /></a></div>

<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span> <br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Step 6: Finish the dress to your liking! I added bias tape around the arm holes, added a belt, lengthened the bottom with another fabric, and added ruffles around the neckline.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><strong>HOW TO MAKE BIAS TAPE:</strong> <a href="http://www.coletterie.com/fabric-haberdashery/tutorial-how-to-make-bias-tape">Sarai</a> explains it WAY better than I can.</span><br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><strong>HOW TO MAKE A BELT:</strong></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"> </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">1. Cut the fabric twice as thick as you want your belt. I cut two strips, because I wasn't sure how long I wanted my belt. </span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHZ-z1Yfr1lKShJljO02xx1kfupq320ndkZpxAHR-GYTWjH18MkzA1euRdYFJjOJZtFUT53OuUjvKig7PZ5MIX9mjLAN22FcVyjUUvYF5TshVqkFA44WQ3hE2baZMSsqRq1eiIbqFLAVw/s1600/P9030058.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="228" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHZ-z1Yfr1lKShJljO02xx1kfupq320ndkZpxAHR-GYTWjH18MkzA1euRdYFJjOJZtFUT53OuUjvKig7PZ5MIX9mjLAN22FcVyjUUvYF5TshVqkFA44WQ3hE2baZMSsqRq1eiIbqFLAVw/s320/P9030058.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;"> </span></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial;">2. Fold the fabric in half (inside out) and sew along the long edge (leaving the ends open).</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiALdGrS_fDgPj_jAgcfg4Z1JonaWv0b29rNtgaJrZxJHesF7lmmraquX3Ga9_HnBm2PgbfftMV8q0TLJ81dqJjPFefbDr8jTb4aapaiMAJ8biTk3kTgWEkfr9FYAbSAki-4d-FjlbJmOU/s1600/P9030062.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiALdGrS_fDgPj_jAgcfg4Z1JonaWv0b29rNtgaJrZxJHesF7lmmraquX3Ga9_HnBm2PgbfftMV8q0TLJ81dqJjPFefbDr8jTb4aapaiMAJ8biTk3kTgWEkfr9FYAbSAki-4d-FjlbJmOU/s320/P9030062.JPG" width="228" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial;"> </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">3. Pull the tubed fabric right-side-out. Cut it to your waist size. Finish the ends (fold the unfinished edge inside and sew). Sew velcro to the ends so they close securely.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">(No pictures, sorry.)</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><strong>HOW TO LENGTHEN A DRESS:</strong> <a href="http://www.jaynsarah.com/2011/02/girls-tulle-skirt-and-modestifying.html">Sarah </a>explains it way better than I can, and she takes pictures of her projects. (I'll have to simmer down next time and actually do that.)</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><strong>HOW TO MAKE RUFFLES & FLOWERS: </strong></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">1. Take a strip of fabric and sew it up the middle. Adjust your machine so it does long, loose stitches. </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_GAW63gCs5ZAZsoLfZT8522jhX0BxxB7meK0SDYoUCvxnbNfLjo-Xtnf1EQUBMt-6zlEP8W_6-nJPrd1fO9Wg2AFiTv3azeIpQT94guIVWwt8RLMiL-TG5wNwcF5uNLB2fQdto07sCxY/s1600/P9030063.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_GAW63gCs5ZAZsoLfZT8522jhX0BxxB7meK0SDYoUCvxnbNfLjo-Xtnf1EQUBMt-6zlEP8W_6-nJPrd1fO9Wg2AFiTv3azeIpQT94guIVWwt8RLMiL-TG5wNwcF5uNLB2fQdto07sCxY/s320/P9030063.JPG" width="320" /></a><span style="font-family: Arial;"></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;">2. Pull 1 thread tight and scrunch the fabric down the length of the thread. DONE!</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;">3. I sewed several of these onto the neckline. I also glued 2 of these in a circle on the belt to make the flower.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span> </div>

This weekend, Moneyman and I will be meeting up with some fellow alums from our college to watch the first game of the season. Unfortunately, I don't have a t-shirt from my alma mater, since I threw most of them away long ago. Living in San Diego, I can't exactly buy a t-shirt locally for my college (Purdue University in Indiana). More importantly, I only have $100 for a year to spend on clothing and a $20 college t-shirt is NOT how I want to spend that money. So... I had to get creative.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Moneyman was a swimmer in college, so he has a plethora of old college t-shirts. He was kind enough to give me one of his old shirts for my use. </span><br />

I decided to jump on the style bus and try to make my own. </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I had an old pair of denim cut-offs that I never wore. They were once a pair of stretch skinnies. Does anyone have a pair of stretch skinny jeans that they love? I LOVED this pair when I first put them on... then, an hour later I would have a serious case of saggy knees and hate them. That's how they became shorts. </span><br />

You find yourself rummaging through your cabinets... </span><br />
<em>Is that a twizzler?! YESSSSS... wait, it's just a piece of string. HUMPH.</em><br />

<span style="font-family: Arial;">Since starting my "clothing diet," this phenomenon has already begun. As I was driving yesterday, every clothing store was calling me. I felt like they were all singing "Come on over. Come on over, baby!" Anyway, I managed to escape and came home to online "window shop". Zara is one of my favorite stores and has been ever since I lived in Madrid. Did you know it's a Spanish brand? Fun Fact #1. I want to take these babies home (and love them forever):</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">1. First, I stumbled across <a href="http://twentypieces.org/">The Twenty Pieces Project</a>. These girls are awesome! They lived for 1 year with 20 pieces of clothing and no shopping. NO shopping. That's some serious cold turkey. Now, they inspire others to do the same. Having just moved from Japan though (and living in Spain prior to that), I really need to Americanize my closet a little...so I opted for a frugal budget.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">2. Next, I found this gem: <a href="http://www.puttingmetogether.com/">Putting Me Together</a>. She reworks items that are already in her closet to create new outfits. I've been doing this for a long time (especially after living in countries that I couldn't always find items that were my "style"). She does a way better job than I do (apparently a jean jacket with your old prom dress does not dress it down- whatevs), so she inspires me daily. Bonus points: She also lives in SoCal.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">3. I've been reading <a href="http://cottonandcurls.blogspot.com/">Cotton and Curls</a> for a while. I loved her at first, because she provides easy sewing tutorials (I love to sew). Meanwhile, it recently hit me that her projects help stretch her closet, since she reworks so many items that she already owns. Pure. Brilliance. I'll definitely be channeling her when I need to rework and restyle items that I already own. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">So thank you to the ladies that have inspired me. My husband, MoneyMan, also thanks you. You see, he is a frugal guy... he is LOVING this mission (and doubting my capability of holding to it). I love proving him wrong... :)</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Anyways, today's outfit is pretty basic. I had to run a few errands and then I had a teaching interview (HOLLA!). I didn't want to wear 2 completely different outfits, but I also didn't feel like walking around in a black suit all day. </span><br />

I love this jewelry! It is so unique. My mom gave it to me to match a gown I was wearing to a wedding. It is definitely different from anything I usually wear, but it's whacky and fun!</td></tr>

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">This is how I feel when I go shopping and buy stuff...</span><br />

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfCe7Mrdmg_YiJCE95cFZ4n07KU0kZ8sRHpJuuycQt6kf2rg2wOvfxAU8DPdOT93vhhyphenhyphenUkKmvAVSs_B3vGG2Uqdl46T38HuRjAmtnGY2MTw_I9sVOOlaovF9DHXzBg2RKgMvK3QWmduDs/s1600/Noel2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="170" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfCe7Mrdmg_YiJCE95cFZ4n07KU0kZ8sRHpJuuycQt6kf2rg2wOvfxAU8DPdOT93vhhyphenhyphenUkKmvAVSs_B3vGG2Uqdl46T38HuRjAmtnGY2MTw_I9sVOOlaovF9DHXzBg2RKgMvK3QWmduDs/s200/Noel2.jpg" width="200" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I'm a military wife. This naturally means that I speak with super cool military lingo and go around saying words like "bulkhead", "cover", "rainlocker", and "civies".</span> </div>
<br />
<em><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: xx-small;">(If you know what these words mean, you must be a military spouse or actual military person. I imagine you know more about these words and others like them than me, so be my friend and teach me! If you don't, well google them and impress me with the other words you find online. I'll use them next time I talk with the MoneyMan (aka my husband), and he'll be <strong>so</strong> impressed.)</span></em><br />
<em><span style="font-family: Verdana; font-size: xx-small;"></span></em><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">It also means that I refer to my self-imposed challenges as <em>missions</em>. This blog started with one of those missions. Normally, these missions are much smaller in scale, like <u>Mission: Wet Cats</u>, which involved washing both of our cats. See? It takes a little challenge(although I think washing a cat is more of a big challenge) and dramatically transforms it into something Tom Cruise or Daniel Craig might do. </span><br />

<span style="font-family: Arial;">Disclaimer: This is not a fashion blog. It's a fashion experiment. It's also an experiment in simplifying my life. Finally, it's testing the sanity of a shopaholic (me) that shops as a hobby, as a stress reliever, and as a reward. </span><br />
